Let’s define up selling so you get an idea. Are you kidding me….I’m not like all these other guys out there folks…You know what up selling is you just might not be using it yet.
The other day I go to do some errands. I first stop at Mickey Dee’s and order a Big Mac meal deal. (Actually it was a double Big Mac but who’s counting). So then I get the, would you like to Super Size that sir. Then, would you like two pies for 1.99 with that sir. I eat up and head to Sears to buy my son a TV. Would you like the extended warranty today Sir? Would you like to join our list to be the first to know about upcoming specials on new TV’s? Then the best one… It’s off to this little store in the mall (more like a kiosk to buy my daughter a watch. I get an up sell on a battery. I could buy a lifetime battery replacement for the watch for about 20 bucks more…..Unbelievable… but none the less good business. Anything that can increase the bottom line is worth trying.
Although most of us are aware of up selling few of us actually take advantage of it online. One place to start right now with is your mailing list or list of customers who have bought in the past or have registered for your Rezone’s. If you have any database of customers who are not currently purchasing from you at least once a year, then what are you waiting for man time to take advantage of an excellent opportunity to up sell your products or services.
Up selling is more than a “nice extra”-it’s should be an integral part of your thinking and thus your sales pitch. Having said this Be Careful, You don’t want to over do it either. I find that a lot of sellers on Clickbank exaggerate the up selling to the point where you feel like an idiot of having bought their product in the first place. Some make you feel like you are still going to fail because you don’t buy their upsell. They basically tell you in their up sell sales letter that you need to buy this next product or you will be stuck and will never be able to get going.
Also, if you overload customers with too many unrelated upsells you will blow it. Offering a fry with a Big Mac is certainly a good fit. But if you attempt to sell me something that is not closely related to the original purchase, you will lose me for ever and you will also be doing a refund for the original product.
One way to facilitate up-selling success is to state specific recommendations from professionals, experts or other customers. This would be like going to a fancy restaurant and asking what does the chef recommend tonight.
All of this said, take it from Good Ole Fred…..Make sure you up sell but make even surer that you do it smartly.
